How it is worked out
- Each hole is at angle = start angle + 360° × (hole number − 1) ÷ number of holes.
- X = centre X + PCD ÷ 2 × cos(angle); Y = centre Y + PCD ÷ 2 × sin(angle).
- Distance between neighbouring holes = PCD × sin(180° ÷ number of holes).
Questions
- What is PCD?
- Pitch circle diameter: the diameter of the circle that runs through the centres of the holes, as on a flange or a wheel hub.
- Where is 0° and which way do the angles go?
- 0° is on the +X axis and angles increase anticlockwise, as in most CNC controls. Set the first hole's angle to match your drawing.
- How do I check the holes after drilling?
- Measure across neighbouring holes and compare with the distance between holes shown above (add one hole diameter if you measure outside to outside).
