Aluminium 2014 (HE15)

Also called: HE15, 2014 aluminium, AA2014, 2014-T6, aluminium copper alloy, HE15 WP, 24345

Aluminium 2014, known in India as HE15, is a high-strength aluminium-copper alloy. In the T6 (fully heat-treated) condition it is much stronger than 6061 and machines very well. It has lower corrosion resistance and is not suitable for ordinary fusion welding, so it is used for machined and forged parts that need strength.

Quick facts

Type
Heat-treatable aluminium-copper alloy (2xxx series)
Main alloy
About 4–5% copper
Tensile strength (T6)
About 440–480 MPa
Machinability
Very good
Corrosion
Fair; often anodised or painted
Welding
Not recommended by fusion welding

Questions

Is HE15 the same as 2014?
Yes, HE15 is the old British (and common Indian) name for aluminium 2014 bar. HE15-WP means the fully heat-treated (T6) condition.
HE15 or 6061?
HE15 is much stronger and machines better; 6061 resists corrosion better and can be welded. Choose HE15 for strength, 6061 for general and welded parts.
Can 2014 aluminium be anodised?
Yes, but the copper makes the anodised layer less even and less bright than on 6061. Hard anodising is possible with the right process.

The figures on this page are typical values for guidance, written by Diemeco from standard engineering practice. They are not a specification: confirm grades and properties with the relevant standard or the supplier's mill test certificate, and tolerances with your workshop. Last checked 16 October 2026.
